In November 1981, the “Gazebo Review Committee” (as the first arts council was named) was formed by the Coudersport New Century Club. They were able to receive a $1,000 Local Government Matching Grant from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts.
Since that time, the Gazebo Review Committee continued to function yearly under the provisions of Local Government Grants, and in 1985 became incorporated as the “Potter County Fine Arts Council”.
The Potter County Fine Arts Council is a non-profit cultural and educational agency. Our goal is to support, encourage, coordinate and promote high-quality activities and programs in the arts and humanities in the Potter County community and support local artists in their work.
Since January of 1989, with the expanding interest in cultural growth in the arts, the Council stands ready to reach out to much broader goals and new endeavors.
Specifically, the Arts Council’s Mission is to:
1. Actively support, promote and develop arts education in the county, especially for young people
2. Actively support, promote and develop programs that bring quality arts to Potter County
3. Actively support, promote and develop efforts to insure that arts education and arts programs are accessible to as many as possible
4. Actively support, promote and assist county artists
The Potter County Fine Arts Council is excited to join with other caring individuals in the community to promote the protection and continuance of the arts in Potter County. We all benefit from helping to bring better performances, art classes and cultural events to our communities.
For every dollar donated to the Potter County Fine Arts Council there is hours of donated time. Your generous support, partnered with this volunteer effort, is what makes the programs offered by the Arts Council available to the community and visitors. Together we can preserve our rich cultural heritage and promote the arts in Potter County. We are proud of the support we have received thus far and of the quality of our past programming.
